The Thread: Interracial relationships are mostly power plays

While Nigeria may struggle with tribalism and nepotism, on the other side of the Atlantic, the nagging issue is racism, whether benign, covert or in your face.

Is Love Racist? is a new show in the UK that tries to dig beneath the surface of interracial relationships to show biases that whites have against blacks. Many call the UK’s brand of racism quiet and sophisticated. According to Charlie Cuff, this show comes with a shock factor that ought to make white people realise how deeply racism is embedded in the society.

Kelechi Okafor has a vastly different opinion about it. She thinks the show will change nothing. White people know they are racist and simply don’t care, she says. By the end of the thread, you’ll find out that a deeper issue lurks, one which has an affinity with all men, regardless of race. They call it misogyny or patriarchy.
