There’s a lot to be said for people who jump on other people’s tweets and cause drama where there should be none, but we won’t say. All we’d say is this tweet below snowballed into a religious debate no one saw coming.
First, Dr Dipo was moved to utter this prayer.
May we not die young. May our creator prolong our lives.
— Dr. Dipo Awojide (@OgbeniDipo) April 26, 2017
To which the people of God said a robust…
Ise.
— The Duke Of Enjoyment (@DukeOfEnjoyment) April 27, 2017
Amen
— Lanre Bam (@larucheebam) April 27, 2017
Amen
— Faasoranti Ololade (@lolydfash19) April 26, 2017
Then came a naysayer
Sad, there is no prayer for longer life. Our death is predestined (Qur'an 7:34, Job 14:5). We pray for a life accomplished, short or long. https://t.co/Q86FMqEINb
— Gimba Kakanda (@gimbakakanda) April 27, 2017
Our "prosperity" preachers have succeeded in tricking a generation into believing they can pray for longer life. You can only wish for it.
— Gimba Kakanda (@gimbakakanda) April 27, 2017
Confused? Perhaps a little Objectives test is necessary.
What exactly are the issues here?
a. That there is no prayer for long life in the Bible or Koran?
b. That God does not answer prayers for long life because there is no such prayer in above-named books?
c. That people can live long and yet live purposeless lives so there is no point praying for long life?
Muslims respond:
@IamAbolude this is the most self satisfying tweet I've ever seen who re you to say there is no prayer for long life??
— Omoniayanfe (@salaudeenhamm17) April 27, 2017
My brother.. There is no prayer or so ever
— Smiles®LFC (@IamAbolude) April 27, 2017
there is prayer for everything, have you read the story of a man..whose death was shifted?? Ask Islamic scholars?
— Omoniayanfe (@salaudeenhamm17) April 27, 2017
"…So when their time has come, they will not remain behind an hour, nor will they precede (it)."~ Qur'an 7:34.
It's not my opinion, sir. https://t.co/QvHJ43yUTf
— Gimba Kakanda (@gimbakakanda) April 27, 2017
thank U, U just supported my claim with that point, but Allah knows best,no one is to give such verdict on twitter

Christians react with scriptural evidence

"With long life will I satisfy him, and show him my salvation." – Psalm 91:16
We can pray for long life o ?? https://t.co/NiWPVKqzcy
— Dr. Dipo Awojide (@OgbeniDipo) April 27, 2017
Gimba responds
The fact that Jesus was resurrected according to the same Bible, does that mean you can also rise from death? Your analogy here suggests so.
— Gimba Kakanda (@gimbakakanda) April 27, 2017
Wrong understanding of that verse, though. It means you can be given a long life and still be satisfied, not granting prayer for long life.
— Gimba Kakanda (@gimbakakanda) April 27, 2017
You misunderstand
Sorry sir, but I actually didn't give you any analogy. I simply turned you to some pages of the Bible.

Oh, and there’s more where that came from

The good Dr chimes in again
What your religion propagates might be different from what other religions propagate. Common sense suggests we should be open minded. https://t.co/f5ntvcOQur
— Dr. Dipo Awojide (@OgbeniDipo) April 27, 2017
You don't have to agree with me that I can pray for long life. If you don't, that's ?% fine. Tuck in this tunnel-vision attitude please. https://t.co/f5ntvcOQur
— Dr. Dipo Awojide (@OgbeniDipo) April 27, 2017
In conclusion
Come now. You can pray for it. Whether or not said prayer will be granted is another issue entirely
— Faiz Aliyu (@Omegasiyon) April 27, 2017
The meaning and purpose of a long life are issues separate from longevity.
— Faiz Aliyu (@Omegasiyon) April 27, 2017
Ask and you shall receive; seek and you shall find. Matt 7:7
If you believe, you shall receive whatsoever you ask in prayer. Matt 21: 22
And so concludes the reading of God’s word.
*Thanks be to God*
