From Military governments to civilian, Goodluck Jonathan through Buhari; with every other protest and kidnapping, the Federal Government has consistently shown that the lives of its citizens are less than that of animals.
This really blew up in people’s minds during the week when the Italian government undertook our responsibility by burying the 26 girls that the Meditteranean sea swallowed as they made their way to a foreign land for a better life.
That maddening event triggered Ayo Sogunro’s thoughts below:
The worst assumption a Nigerian can make is to assume that the Nigerian govt puts value on our individual lives.
This was the case in 1960 and this is still the case in 2017. They only see us as power-supporting machinery.
First reason why I am never a supporter of our govts.

Leadership has to be inspirational, not feudal. It may be hard to improve an economy in 4 years, but it should be easy to inspire people to look forward.
You inspire by being one of the people: connecting with them as often as possible in times of tragedy and in times of joy.

Connecting with the people is not just about issuing statements everyday. It isn't the same as eating roadside corn on election eve.
It is, instead, a way of living: involving how accessible the leadership is, their individual lifestyle, and their empathy in daily events.

People have dignity. Leadership recognises this dignity and then caters to it through education, healthcare, improved economic systems, and respect for personal liberties.
If a govt doesn't respect the dignity of its citizens in the first place, nothing else will work well.

Not everyone in our govt is a monster. But our political system is one that strips humanity because you cannot say or do anything humane without checking with Oga above.
Which is why we need a system where being humane is the default approach to governance, with or without Oga.

Reactions:
This government is bereaved of sympathy towards the Nigerian people. https://t.co/RWFTjx3Tny

I have never heard of the Nigerian government coming to the aid of its citizens abroad but when it is time to famz with achievements they didn't have a hand in creating, the line up like shameless fools! 🙃 https://t.co/rZDb29HLqK
