Since the news broke on social media that Italy had buried the dead Nigerian girls who lost their lives after being violently sexually assaulted while enroute Europe, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Foreign Affairs reacted in surprise.
May the souls of our girls who drowned at sea RIP. FEC has set up a panel to look holistically at the matter and report within a week,on drastic measures to be taken .

I hope the mission in Italy was duly informed of time . date and venue. If true , this has to be looked into. FEC , as the highest decision making body, is taking this up cos of its utmost seriousness . Two different matters here https://t.co/FC6E9Qip0V

Days after the burial took place, Mrs Dabiri-Erewa returned to Twitter with news:
On the issue of the burial of the 26 dead bodies washed up in the Mediterranean; Italy had communicated to @naptipnigeria that the burial would take place in Salerno on the 26th of November.

Nigerians are not here for any of her eexcuses or post mortem reactions. The general consensus is that Nigeria should have thrown itself into the thick of things immediately after the unfortunate event happened, instead of crying over spilled milk, after the fact.
See below:
The Italian Cover-up
What was the hasty burial for if the Italian government are not trying to hide something? The federal government should investigate the issue.

With lots of bashing comments on this thread, it's obvious many so-called Nigerian graduates have a ? mark on their certs. If a country had agreed wt d home country on a chosen date to bury a people, but d former went 9 days earlier to carry out d obsequies, need we any attack?

Don't address them as mere dead bodies.. They are Nigerian Girls.. They have a country.. Say it as it is .. Show the dead respect ✊

Take several seats
Useless, Inhuman and Evil Nigerians leaders. Assume you heard of your relatives was among, you would have kept vigil about it
— Wisdom (@Bobwisdom) November 20, 2017
They communicated with an agency and not the embassy. How does that sound. You people can truely do better than all this disgrace.
— Ibe (@utellmemore) November 20, 2017
Simply a cosmetic PR on a dead horse; It is never in the genes of Africa (Nigeria especially) leaders to render a public apology. Accept your mistake and tender a public apology. As we know nothing will come forth from the inquest. It is the usual norm!
— Ikhianosimhe Peters (@pethianopeters) November 20, 2017
The more you tweet on this issue, the more obnoxious you sound ma.
1. You heard about this mishap yet you took no step in repatriating the bodies for identification and investigation
2. Till date you haven't named the victims
3. You don't know if they were trafficked or..— Olabode A.O (@omolere) November 20, 2017
If there was a response by Nigeria, if a detailed plan was put in place by Nigeria, I am sure the would not have buried them.
The decision was left for them to take, so they did it sooner.— Rosemary Chikwendu (@Rosemchik) November 21, 2017
A proactive government that cares about her citizens would have had representative on ground from the onset to ensure that no criminal offence had taken place so that people are held accountable if any. These excuses should stop

Shameless Nigeria Political Leaders always shift the blame to others. Are we not really ashamed that we have human beings crossing Mediterranean Sea to seek a better life? @abikedabiri do not destroy your credibility and don’t defend insanity.
— Blessing Ogbe?? (@BlessIza) November 20, 2017
You people should have been involved in d burial arrangements and even asked to fly the bodies home. Instead your staff sat on their asses waiting for the burial day. Nigerian life worths nothing to you bunch
— Basil Ezimorah (@Basilezimorah) November 21, 2017
I hope you resolve the questions you've asked, but you already lost the right of narrative.
(Situations like this is more evidence of why we govt has to be proactive, not reactive.) https://t.co/ZHEFvtW6e6

Ok…what are the senate and the house doing about the future of Nigeria being held as slaves and to prevent it from happening again?
— debiyi (@biykayode) November 20, 2017
I can answer that sir . Absolutely Nothing. They dont care . They are just there to enrich their pockets.
— Bre James (@Abbleys) November 20, 2017
Another grp of Nigerians r about to die again. #abandonedNDDCscholars r embarking on hunger strike until @NDDCOfficial process their scholarships. Do something now or wait until anyone of them dies and then tell us how FEC has set up a panel. @NDDC_SHLRS15_16 @NGRSenate

Your office is an embarrassment to Nigeria. You are just there like a toy idol doing NOTHING! EVILS! #SAkillins, #26 #More
— Wisdom (@Bobwisdom) November 20, 2017
Why should we complain about Italy burying the 26 women at all? What Nigeria owes Italy in the case of these women is gratitude first and then cooperation to ensure this does not happen again. It does not speak well of us as a nation to complain that their burial was ‘hasty’.
