This is when nominations for AMVCA 2018 will be announced

If you are looking forward to this year’s edition of the Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards (AMVCA), then you might have to wait a little longer. I have almost forgotten that it exists, and you can’t blame me. Speculations about the awards went from not holding in the year of review to a postponement, the latter hinged on how cramped the television schedule was, something about the World Cup in Russia.

Anyway, it seems momentum has picked up for one of the most prestigious movie/TV awards show on the continent, starting with the announcement of nominations on Saturday, June 30, 7pm (WAT), via a televised broadcast on all Africa Magic channels on DStv and GOtv.

This special duty will be helmed by Ghanaian actress and TV personality Joselyn Dumas, alongside comedian and actor Bovi. Bovi’s last hosting duty, on a huge scale that is, was for the rather lackluster Headies that became an avenue for Seyi Shay to change outfits like a chameleon, while also doing a vapid job at hosting.

“We are honoured to showcase and celebrate the creative industry each year on the platform of the AMVCAs,” Director M-NET (West Africa) Wangi Mba-Uzoukwu said concerning the awards ceremony, “In the past five years, we have remained steadfast in our commitment to nature and showcase indigenous talent from across the continent.”

According to Wangi, the judging panel was spearheaded by veteran filmmaker Debbie Odutayo, and over 3000 entries were painstakingly reviewed to arrive at the final shortlist of nominees.

This year, awards will be presented in 27 categories, with seven categories open to public voting and 20 other categories to be decided by the AMVCA panel of judges. Slated to hold on September 1, the 2018 AMVCA will have a live broadcast on all Africa Magic channels.
