Nigeria is a country with a large number of young people who are demanding more from their government all the time, and taking a greater interest in politics. This increased interest has come with growing calls to actually get involved in the making of decisions that affect us all.

Below is a list of young Nigerians, in no particular order, who are beginning to make their mark in the political space.

Umar Bello Magaji is a lawyer who hails from Kaduna State. In 2007 he became the first National Student Leader of the PDP. He consequently became the Director Mobilization, PDP Youth Vanguard. He was a member of the PDP Presidential Campaign Council 2011 Youth Wing.  He was the 1st National Coordinator PDP Youth Cirucit. He presently is the President, Youth for Change Initiative. He is known in political circles as a massive mobilizer of youths in Northern Nigeria.

Uche Chuta

Uche Chuta was part of the Goodluck Sambo Campaign Group which was the organization saddled with the responsibility of getting the PDP Presidential Ticket. He then became the Head of Technology, Neighbour-2-Neighbour which was an outreach grassroots movement that contributed to the emergence of Goodluck Jonathan as elected President of Nigeria.

He has been at the forefront in pushing for government officials and entities to use social media and technology to improve governance and communication. He was also one of the founding members of the PDP Youth Circuit. He is presently pursuing a career in Public Service at the Federal Level.

Anthony Ehilebo is a British trained lawyer who also qualified at the Nigerian Bar. He is the Principal Partner at Ogbeide Associates, a leading law Firm based in Abuja. He is a founding member of the PDP youth circuit, and erstwhile national programme leader. He is rumoured to be prepping to run as PDP national youth leader when the next elective convention holds.

Ohimai Godwin Amaize: After working as Dele Momodu’s campaign manager for the 2011 presidential elections, Ohimai entered government service as Special Adviser (Advocacy) to Bolaji Abdullahi, first in the Ministry of Youth Development, and now in the Ministry of Sports.

Luke Onofiok: He became the first speaker of the Nigerian Youth Parliament in 2010, after serving as Personal Assistant to Godswill Akpabio in Akwa Ibom, his home state. After completing his tenure as Speaker, he won election into the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, where he is currently Chairman, House Committee on Appropriation and Finance, and Deputy Chairman, Committee on Information.

Akin Rotimi: He made his name in branding, working with companies like Rosabel, Verdant Zeal and BGL, before becoming Special Assistant on Communications to the Ekiti State governor, Kayode Fayemi in 2011. He was a 2012 Future Awards nominee, for excellence in public service.

Ngozi Njemanze got a degree in Law from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka in 2001, was admitted to the Bar in 2003, and earned a Masters from Harvard Law. She has worked as litigation counsel with Aluko & Oyebode, served as a Harvard Chayes fellow with the EFCC, and also with the World Bank as a legal associate. She is currently Special Assistant on Policy to the Minister of Sports, Bolaji Abdullahi, and is a prominent member of the PDP ‘E-women’ founded by Kema Chikwe.

Raymond Dokpesi (Jnr): Raymond Junior is currently the Executive Director (Special Duties) at DAAR Communications, but is a very charismatic youth leader, who founded the Leage of Young Democrats. He’s also the Deputy Chairman of the PDP Youth Circuit.

Olumide Babatunde Osoba

Olumide Babatunde Osoba: He turns 36 in April, but is already nearly two years into his term as a member of the Federal House of Representatives, representing Abeokuta North federal constituency, giving him experience that will be important for future responsibilities. Olumide is following in the footsteps of his father, Segun Osoba, who is a former governor of Ogun state.

Bamikole Omisore: Before becoming the diaspora coordinator for the Dele Momodu presidential campaign, Bamikole Omisore ran an entertainment outfit called So So Selective. He is currently Special Adviser on Media and Advocacy to the influential Senator from Kwara state, Bukola Saraki.

  1. Powerful? Even a political errand boy who cannot write a decent essay now thinks he is a policy maker. Na waa ooo. Na only God go help us for this country.

  2. Why is the word powerful used? Who really are these guys? Trying to take the slightest path to fame over doing nothing. Using the same old tricks older politicians with nothing to offer used to climb their way to office. Sad….only in Nigeria that mediocrity rules!

  3. it’s abt having mighty peopl in Nigeria bt there r no effectiv results. The best thing for our up-coming politicians to do is to have hearts that r wheeld to God, bcos man is limited by the wisdom He has, bt when we hav the heart of God in us we wll stop fighting for our selfish gains
