The woman in the other room

by Olufemi Babalogbon

When she is raped, it’s for nudity
No judgment for the villain himself
She gets pregnant in school, lost sympathy
Of people who aren’t holier than her-self

Why should a girl be impregnated?
She must have invented the semen!
Why should a girl be violated?
She must have been the one seeing men!

When her marriage breaks, her infidelity
When she cries for love, her deception
When she is more confident, her insanity
When she asks for more, her misconception

She must have slept around to be so successful
If she is this successful, she must be pride-ridden
She must be vain to dress so beautiful
If she is this beautiful, she must be sex-driven

Oh she got a Range as her new toy?
She is a diabolical priestess!
Oh she got married to the big boy?
It is still diabolical prowess!

White Grandpa says he grabs her by the pu_y
Black Grandpa says her place’s in the kitchen
To the humour-sexist-speaker, she is his object
To the locker-room-talker, she comes often, subject
