General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida gave out his daughter, Halima Babangida in marriage to Auwal Abdullahi, a businessman, at the Hilltop mansion in Minna yesterday. The event was quite the crowd puller. ThisDay captioned it “10 Hours of Laughter, 10000 VVIPs, 35 Private Jets, Tons of Bi-partisan Goodwill in Minna”.
The operative words are bi-partisan goodwill, with good reason. Disregard the blame game that political parties play. Pay no heed to the mudslinging on social media and pages of newspapers. These photos prove that whatever antagonism exists, the political class is one.
Do see below:
Look at that!
An event like this, which drew all and sundry of the political elite could not pass by without Twitter NG remarking on it it.
Here goes:
On this Table we have 2 Presidents, 2 VPs, 4 Governors, 1 Senate President, 1 Speaker, 2 Senators, 1 Chief of Army Staff, 2 Drs (PhD+MBBS) pic.twitter.com/4zbshXj74N

Now, that’s clout.
A trip back in time
By the way, “Dateline: Dodan Barracks 1986, 31 years ago, Halima Babangida had just been born at First Consultant Hospital, Obalende, Lagos. Delivered by Dr. Benjamin Ohiaeri. She was named in a ceremony attended by high octane individuals, who are today, drivers of modern Nigeria.”
And what better way to send her off, if not in the style in which she came. Tolu Ogunlesi takes us back in time:
1. Older Nigerians will remember Halima Babangida, because she was born while her father was Military President, in Lagos in 1989
— tolu ogunlesi (@toluogunlesi) May 13, 2017
delivered by Prof Belo Osagie.
— Betty Irabor (@BettyIrabor) May 13, 2017
Another version says Dr Benjamin Ohiaeri of First Consultants in Obalende.Belo-Osagie was Personal Physician to IBB, so must've been present https://t.co/ml7Tbyqsoq
— tolu ogunlesi (@toluogunlesi) May 13, 2017
It was an item, her birth and naming made it to the NTA Network news! Prime time TV o!
— Ọmọ Ọ̀dọ̀ Àgbà (@lakunle70) May 13, 2017
I remember.
— Betty Irabor (@BettyIrabor) May 13, 2017
2. THISWEEK(1989): "There could not have been, in 1989, a more eagerly awaited baby than Halimat Babangida, born to Nigeria's First Couple."
— tolu ogunlesi (@toluogunlesi) May 13, 2017
3. As Nigeria's most famous baby at the time(possibly ever), her naming ceremony was a big Lagos party, just like her wedding in Minna yest.
— tolu ogunlesi (@toluogunlesi) May 13, 2017
4. And if there's one thing the Babangidas proved capable of doing well,it was parties. @TIME says the 1st Couple threw Lagos' best parties
