Buhari swears in Tanko Muhammed as substantive CJN

President Muhammadu Buhari has sworn in Tanko Muhammad as the Chief Justice of Nigeria.

The swearing-in ceremony was held at the council chamber of the Presidential Villa, Abuja. Muhammad, a justice of the Supreme Court, was cleared by the Senate last week after his name was submitted to the lawmakers by President Muhammadu Buhari.

US travel ban shows presidential election was rigged – Atiku

The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in the February 23 election, Atiku Abubakar, has said that the current travel ban imposed by the United States on some politicians in Nigeria has validated his claim that the presidential election was rigged in favour of the All Progressives Congress and President Muhammadu Buhari.

The former Vice President in a statement by his media aide, Paul Ibe, on Wednesday, said he had maintained after the presidential election that the poll was not credible.

Senate suspends ministerial screening

After screening 10 ministerial nominees, the Senate has called it off for Wednesday. 33 other nominees will take their turn tomorrow. Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, said that about 10 nominees would be screened on Thursday.

Only 314 places of worship licensed to conduct marriages in Nigeria – FG

The Federal Government has said that most worship centres conducting marriages in Nigeria did not possess the licence to do so under the statutory Marriage Act. It explained that only 314 places of worship were licensed to contract marriages in the country. The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Interior, Georgina Ehuriah, disclosed this in Abuja on Wednesday, at a one-day stakeholders’ conference on the conduct of statutory marriage in accordance with the Marriage Act Cap M6, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004, as amended.

PDP congratulates new UK prime minister Boris Johnson 

National chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Prince Uche Secondus, on behalf of the leadership of the party, Wednesday, congratulated United Kingdom newly elected Prime Minister , Mr. Boris Johnson. In a statement signed by the party’s spokesman, Kola Ologbondiyan, the party expressed confidence of stronger ties with Britain in the months ahead.
