Ninth assembly will consider state police – Doguwa

The All Progressives Congress endorsed candidate for the House of Representatives Majority Leader, Alhassan Ado-Doguwa, has said the ninth National Assembly would strive to do things differently from the past in order to aid national development, and will consider state policing. He indicated that the house under the leadership of Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila would aid reforms in the health, education and security sectors among other priorities.

NACA DG resigns as Buhari appoints new head 

President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the appointment of Gambo Gumel Aliyu as the Director-General of the agency for an initial term of four years.

The development was against the backdrop of the resignation on Tuesday of the Director-General of the agency, Sani Aliyu.

A statement by the Permanent Secretary, General Services at the Office of the Secretary to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF), Olusegun Adekunle, said the appointment of the new head of NACA was in line with the provision of Section 8, Sub-Section (4) of National Agency for the Control of Aids (Establishment) Act, 2007.

Supreme Court grants accelerated hearing in Nwoko, Nwaoboshi cases

A five-man panel of Supreme Court Justices led by the Acting Chief Justice of Nigeria Tanko Muhammad, on Tuesday in Abuja, granted the application for an accelerated hearing in case a case filed by Ned Nwoko of the PDP against Peter Nwaoboshi, a senator.

Mr Nwoko is praying the court to upturn the Court of Appeal judgment which declared incumbent Mr Nwaoboshi as the duly elected senator for the Delta North Senatorial District.

Lawan announces names of Principal Officers

 

President, Senator Ahmad Lawan, on Tuesday read letters from the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC and the opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, announcing names of Principal Officers for the 9th Senate.

Wole Soyinka, Nobel laureate, has said the proposed Ruga settlement of the federal government is not the best approach to resolving the herders-farmers crisis. He spoke at the launch of United Nations Solutions 17 SDG programme in Lagos on Tuesday.
