President Muhammadu Buhari, currently in Turkey, has revealed that his administration was very “surprised and disturbed” when they learned that Boko Haram had been getting support from international terrorist group ISIS.

Buhari went on to boast to his Turkish counterpart, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, about how his administration has been able to contain the Boko Haram insurgency.

Although the President’s use of the word ‘contain’ is arguable, the Buhari-led administration has in recent times tried and sentenced at least 45 Boko Haram members to prison.

Meanwhile, state governors who were recently in a meeting with the president before his trip to Turkey have seized his absence to refute a claim which was reported to have been made by the president.

According to reports, President Buhari had scolded the governors during the meeting, asking them ‘how they are able to sleep when they owing workers salaries’, however, the Nigerian Governors Forum (NGF) has described reports as false.

In another recent development, the federal government is working on a new kind of punishment for looters.

The Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abukabar Malami, revealed that President Muhammadu Buhari has directed all relevant agencies to compile and publish the names of all looters and “high ranking public officials from whom public funds were recovered.”

They were also ordered to tell Nigerians the circumstances under which funds were recovered, as well as the exact amount of funds recovered from each public official.

In Lagos state, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) says it has commenced operation “Show Your Licence’’ across the state to arrest drivers without a valid licence.

The State Sector commander, Hyginus Omeje, said they were doing this as part of its ember month programmes to sensitise drivers on the need to possess valid licences before driving.

This was prompted by the record of 57 road crashes in the third quarter of 2017, albeit a 46.2 percent decrease from 2016.
