A Federal High Court in Abuja, has on Wednesday ordered the immediate sack of the Senator representing Kogi East Senatorial District, Senator Atai Aidoko, of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Justice Gabriel Kolawole, delivering judgment in the pre-election suit, held that Aidoko was not properly nominated by the PDP in the December 2014 Primaries and ordered the immediate swearing-in of his challenger, Isaac Alfa, of the PDP, by the Clerk of the National Assembly..

The court also ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC) to issue a fresh certificate of return to Alfa being the winner of the December 7, 2014 Senate primaries of the PDP, adding that the PDP and Mr Aidoko pay Mr Alfa N750,000 each.

The Ekiti House of Assembly has slammed an indefinite suspension on the impeached Chief Whip of the House, Hon Sunday Akinniyi representing Ikere constituency II. 

The suspension was sequel to the submission of the report of an Ad hoc disciplinary committee of the House, after he was indicted over allegations of violent conduct against other members, absenteeism, sleeping on duty, gross abuse of office, anti-party activities and engaging in activities capable of bringing down the dignity of the House.

Chairman of the committee, Hon. Fajemilehin Ayodele, disclosed to the House that all efforts geared towards getting the lawmaker to defend himself proved abortive due to his alleged refusal to honour the invitation of the committee.

The Leader of Business, Hon. Akinyele Olatunji later moved the motion for the indefinite suspension of the lawmaker whichwas unanimously approved by members present at plenary.

The Federal Government has concluded plans for a wholesome revision of all laws in the country to ensure they are up to date and reflect current democratic realities.

According to a report by the Nation, Chairman, Nigerian Law Reform Commission (NLRC), Kefas Magaji, made this public in Abuja on Wednesday, saying his agency has scheduled a national summit on law reform for June 19 at the National Judicial Institute, Abuja to allow stakeholders contribute to how a thorough revision of the nation’s laws could be effected.

The planned revision is also targeted at ensuring the production of smart and better laws that will aid the effective operation government and its agencies within the context of sound democratic culture based on the doctrine of rule of law. (The Nation)

Commandant of the Nigerian Armed Forces Resettlement Centre (NAFRC), Air Vice Marshal Austine Jekenu, says a total of 320 military personnel will retire from the armed forces next week.

Jekenu revealed this on Wednesday at the centre in Oshodi, Lagos,where the retiring servicemen drawn from the Army, the Air Force and the Navy went through months of intensive training on skills acquisition and entrepreneurship.

According to him, the centre has the mandate to provide necessary training geared towards preparing retiring servicemen for reintegration into civil life.

“A total of 320 servicemen comprising of 262 from the Nigerian Army, 44 from the Nigerian Navy and 14 from the Nigerian Air Force would be graduating from the NAFRC,’’ he said.

Fifty gangsters, known variously as ‘Yan Sarasuka or Yan Shara’, have been arrested on Wednesday in Kaduna state.

According to the state government, the suspects who were arrested at different locations in Kaduna town, following investigations by security agencies of an outrage perpetrated by the hoodlums in parts of the state will be arraigned before a magistrate court after security agencies conclude investigations.

According to a statement issued by the Senior Special Assistant to Governor Nasir El-Rufai on Media and Publicity, Samuel Aruwan, the governor directed security agencies to deal decisively with the menace of urban hoodlums.

Georgian Prime Minister, Giorgi Kvirikashvili  has announced his resignation amid a disagreement with the leader of his ruling party, Bidzina Ivanishvili.

“We’ve had some disagreements with the leader of the ruling party. I think this is the moment now when the leader of the party should be given an opportunity to form a new cabinet,” Kvirikashvili said in a televised statement on Wednesday.
