Presidential spokesperson, Femi Adesina, stated that President Buhari recalled his interactions with Merkel over the years, especially at the G8 meeting in 2015 and during his visit to Germany in 2016, adding that he left “with a strong impression of her commitment to building stronger ties across the world.”

As part of its measures to end the rising issue of illegal importation of firearms into the country, the federal government has taken action to prosecute culprits involved arms smuggling. Five men are currently being prosecuted by the FG for importing 661 pump-action rifles into the country.

However, after initially pleading ‘not guilty,’ two out of the five men have indicated their intention to enter into a plea bargain, providing them with a chance to change their plea from not guilty to guilty.

The peaceful protests by Internal Displaced Persons in Maiduguri have taken an ugly turn as policemen in the state reportedly arrested some of the protesters.

The group had protested on Sunday, saying “the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) would want to return to their respective communities in Bama and continue their normal activities in view of the prevailing peace in the state.”
