Akin to the type of scene you see in a war zone, the picture shows sick women sleeping on the sand under a tree with drip hanged on the tree to pass some fluid to the body of the ailing women. A first look at the picture shows Somalia but a further check into the news shows its Kaffe Gada Local government in Sokoto, yes the same Sokoto that Aminu Tambuwal a trained lawyer is their Governor, the same Tambuwal that spent 600m on the Purchase of an Abuja Palace for the almighty Sultan of Sokoto.

It was reported that the individuals were receiving treatment under the shade of trees because their primary healthcare center is under construction, as a result they need to use the tree as the hospital. It is ridiculous that patients would be exposed to the elements and have to rest in an uncomfortable environment when they recuperate and be expected to make a full recovery.  Renovations of the primary health centre is a welcome development but other arrangements should have been made to transfer the patients to other hospitals or healthcare centres at no extra cost to them. Or the government could have purchases  mobile clinics that could be purchased to serve the community till the renovation is over, what about moving them to the community town hall or a classroom among many available options.

This among other questions begging for answers has shown the failure of leadership in Sokoto, its leadership failure because leaders are expected to be thinkers and solution providers but the case in Sokoto is that of individuals that never believed the people deserve a better deal. In a 21st century society healthcare is as paramount as security as a result it must come first on the list of any administration that is truly people centered. The maltreatment meted out to these people has shown that the government placed zero premium on human lives and they are left at the mercy of their sufferings.
This is 2018, we should do better
