Rivers Governor, Nyesom Wike, said he has uncovered a plot by the Federal Government to frame him up for gunrunning using a Lebanese businessman.

The governor revealed this on Sunday during a thanksgiving service at the St. Thomas Anglican Church, Diobu, Port Harcourt, in honour of the Chairman of Rivers State Local Government Service Commission, Azubuike Nmerukini,  also said there were plans “to cause so much crisis in the state so that Rivers election is held on a separate date. Their plot will fail.” 

Wike who had recently accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) led Federal Government of plotting to assassinate him, said that the Lebanese businessman would claim he had received money from him to procure arms for the 2019 elections.

The Adamawa Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Ahmad Sajoh, has confirmed the death of a boy with two others injured, following an explosion in Mubi town.

Sajoh disclosed on Sunday in Yola, the explosion, suspected to be from an Improvise Explosive Device(IED) occurred at a scrap materials gathering point along Kabang area of the town, mainataining that “it was not a suicide attack as being speculated.

The Lagos Police Command has dismissed the three policemen for allegedly spraying tear gas on an asthmatic patient, Ademuwagun Solomon, in the Ojota area of the state.

According to a statement on Sunday by the command’s Public Relations Officer, Chike Oti,  “the Lagos State Police Command wishes to inform members of the public that the Commissioner of Police, CP Edgal Imohimi, has dismissed three policemen, comprising an inspector and two sergeants, who were alleged to have sprayed tear gas on one Solomon Ademuwagun, which resulted in a severe asthmatic crisis. The incident took place at Chinese town, in the Ojota area of Lagos State.”

“The men, whose names and service numbers are Inspector Momoh Sulaiman (220957), Sergeant Emmanuel Monday (429659) and Sergeant Adamu Usman (434246), were tried in an orderly room which commenced on Saturday, and were found guilty as charged. They were, therefore, dismissed and de-kitted accordingly.

The Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige has faulted the decision of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) to report the country to the Committee on the Application of Standard of the International Labour Organisation (ILO).

The Minister, who disclosed this in an interview in Geneva, Switzerland, said Labour’s decision was done in bad faith and against national interest, adding that there was no need to wash the country’s dirty linen in public since the retrenchment of unqualified teachers in Kaduna State, which the NLC stated in its petition, was being tackled at home .

The NLC had written to the committee reporting both Kaduna and Kogi state governments and asking the ILO to send a high-powered delegation to Nigeria to investigate infringements of the right of workers by the states.

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has said that troops in the oil-rich Niger Delta region remain deployed to take care of unforeseen developments.

The military high command restated that the presence of troops gives confidence to investors and businesses to remain in operation, saying the military cannot on their own withdraw from areas where operations have not been concluded unless directed to withdraw.

Acting Director, Defence Information, Brig.-Gen. John Agim, while responding to a recent Amnesty International’s (AI) allegation of human rights abuses by soldiers, debunked the claim  on Sunday, insisting that troops who flout the military code of conduct are usually sanctioned.
