I’m happy UN appreciates my fight against corruption, poverty – Buhari
Buhari on Thursday expressed happiness that the effort of his administration to wage war against corruption and poverty in the country was acknowledged and appreciated by the United Nations.
Speaking during an audience with Mohammad Ibn Chambas, United Nations Special Representative of the Secretary-General for West Africa and the Sahel, at the State House, Abuja, the President said he was pleased that the United Nations appreciated his administration’s focus on fighting corruption, poverty and ensuring regional stability.
Senate rejects motion to debate Buhari’s Democracy Day speech
The majority of Nigerian senators Thursday voted against a motion to debate President Muhammadu Buhari’s Democracy Day speech in plenary. The motion to scrutinise the speech was moved by Istifanus Gyang (Plateau-PDP).
We have evidence against Sanusi – Kano anti-graft agency
The Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission has described as misrepresentation of facts, the response of Muhammadu Sanusi II, emir of Kano, to a query the state government issued to him.
The administration of Abdullahi Ganduje, governor of Kano, had asked Sanusi to respond to the accusation that N3.4 billion was misappropriated under his watch.
In his response, the monarch said he is not the accounting officer of the emirate and made it clear that he did not inherit up to N2 billion. But in a report, Muhuyi Magaji, chairman of the agency, said there was evidence against Sanusi.
Ganduje demands apology from Sanusi
Kano governor, Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has been quoted as saying that Emir Muhammad Sunusi II must publicly apologise to him and the entire people of Kano for allegedly dragging the Emirate Council into politics for the ongoing reconciliation moves to yield the desired result.
Ganduje, in his 45-paragrah response to an article, ‘Letter to Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje,” written by one Jibrin Ibrahim in respect of the face-off between the duo, also said, ‘’Emir Sanusi has the moral burden to withdraw all court cases he’s personally sponsoring against Kano State Government as part of reconciliation conditions.’’
Nigerian Army commanding officer dies in Boko Haram attack
A Nigerian Army lieutenant colonel has been feared killed in action after Boko Haram insurgents attacked a military formation in Borno State on Wednesday. The 158 Task Force Battalion in Mobba Local Government Area came under attack by the rampaging terrorists as the country was celebrating its new Democracy Day on June 12, military sources said
