No laws bans cattle grazing in Abuja – official

Against the background of concerns expressed by residents on the increasing sighting of cattle roaming the street in the city, Abuja Environmental Protection Board (AEDP) has said there are “no written laws” that ban the practice in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The spokesperson of AEDP, Muktar Ibrahim, acknowledged that the immediate past Minister of FCT, Muhammad Bello, banned cattle from roaming in the city.

Arrested suspects not yet linked to Olakunrin’s murder – Police

The Ondo State Police Command on Thursday said it had yet to link any of the suspects in its custody with the killing of Mrs Funke Olakunrin, a daughter of the Leader of the pan-Yoruba socio-political group, Afenifere, Chief Reuben Fasoranti.

Olakunrin, 58, was killed last Friday by gunmen, who attacked her vehicle at a spot near Kajola town on Ore-Sagamu Road.

The Ooni of  Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, Thursday, warned that the South West zone would defend itself from marauding herdsmen. Briefing State House correspondents after meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari, the Ooni said the drums of war can be heard across the country, warning that the Yoruba will defend themselves, with reinforcement from the Federal Government.

Herdsmen won’t regain trust of the people if violence continues – CAN President 

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has urged the leadership of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) to call its members who are violent to order.

According to NAN, Samson Ayokunle, president of CAN, spoke at a press conference in Abuja on Thursday. He said herdsmen who are of the Fulani extraction cannot regain the trust and respect of Nigerians until they stop being violent.

Judiciary corrupt, should be treated like other corrupt elements – CJN

Senate, on Thursday, confirmed Justice Tanko Muhammad as substantive Chief Justice of Nigeria, CJN, with the CJN saying the judiciary was corrupt and should be treated like other corrupt elements. Answering questions from senators, Muhammad noted that there was corruption in the judiciary as it was in the larger society, adding that he was not surprised that some judges were corrupt.
