The Federal Government has announced its plan for a “special prosecution” of at least 2,541 suspected Boko Haram terrorists in its custody this October.

The Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, said the FG will commence the trial of 1,670 of the detainees in Niger states, followed by the cases of 651 suspects currently detained at Maiduguri prison, which would be taken up by the special arrangement.

In Maiduguri, an NGO, the Bama Initiative for Human Development Sunday, staged a peaceful protest along with Internal Displaced Persons in the state.

The group’s Chairman, Alhaji Muhammad Hassan, said that the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) would want to return to their respective communities in Bama and continue their normal activities in view of the prevailing peace in the state.

“We have been in Maiduguri for more than three years without meaningful means of livelihoods. The condition of our people is pathetic,” he said.

The Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar has revealed that the Nigerian Air Force is expecting new fighter aircrafts from four countries, including Russia, the United States of America, Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates.

Earlier this year, the United States reportedly agreed to sell 12 fighter jets to Nigeria at $600m. Minister of Defence, Mansur Dan Ali had also disclosed that Nigeria will buy military fighter jets from Russia.

The battle between EFCC and Diezani continues. The Former oil minister allegedly prevented investigators from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) from interrogating her in the United Kingdom.

The agency said in a counter-affidavit filed before the Federal High Court, Abuja, that its efforts to interrogate her over the allegations had been abortive as her lawyer, John Binns of BCL Solicitors, refused to allow the commission meet her.
