Senate President Bukola Saraki has approved the appointment of Abubakar Danladi as his Special Adviser on Special Duties.

The appointment was announced through a statement by the Special Adviser, Media and Publicity to the Senate President, Yusuph Olaniyonu, on Sunday.

The appointment takes immediate effect, the statement noted.

Danladi was in 2017 sacked by the Supreme Court as senator representing Taraba North.


President Muhammadu Buhari will leave Abuja today (Monday) for an official visit to the UK, the presidency said in a statement Sunday by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu.

Shehu said the president is due to “hold discussions on Nigeria – British relations with Prime Minister Theresa May, prior to the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meetings scheduled for April 18 to 20.”

The president will also meet the Chief Executive Officer of Royal Dutch Plc, Mr. Ben van Beurden in connection with Shell and other partners’ plan to invest $15 billion in Nigeria’s oil industry. These investment ventures will lay the foundation for the next 20 years production and domestic gas supply, bringing with it all the attendant benefits both to the economy and the wider society.”


The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), John Odigie-Oyegun, has surrendered to the opponents of tenure elongation as he, last night, bowed to pressure from governors and party leaders to forego tenure extension.

He has summoned an emergency meeting of the National Working  Committee (NWC) for 8 am today to draw the timetable for state congresses and National Convention.


The naira remains stable at the official and parallel markets, with the foreign exchange (forex) reserves standing at $46.7 billion, a report by Exotic Capital, an investment and research firm, has said.

The naira exchanges at 362 to the dollar in the parallel market and 305.6 in the official market. It has remained at those rates since April, last year, after the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) resumed forex interventions in the market.

The report said although the level of reserves was still below the record high of $64 billion realised in August 2008, it is nearly double the $24 billion recorded in October 2016, increasing by more than $22 billion in 15 months.


Former National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki has sued the Department of State Services (DSS), its Director General Lawal Daura and Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) Abubakar Malami over his continued detention.

Dasuki has been in the custody of the DSS since December 29, 2015.

In a fundamental rights enforcement suit marked filed on March 15, 2018, before the Federal High Court, Abuja, Dasuki is praying the court to order his unconditional release.

He is also praying the court to award in his favour, and against the respondents, N5 billion as “general damages and compensation” for the alleged violation of his rights.

Several people have died or were injured after a military airport in Syria came under missile attack, the country’s state media reported.

State news agency SANA said several missiles struck the Tayfur airbase, also known as T4, near the city of Homs in the early hours of Monday.

Syria’s state news agency initially called the reported missile strike on the Tayfur airfield a “suspected US attack,” but later dropped the reference to the US.


Hungary‘s right-wing Prime Minister Viktor Orban has claimed a landslide victory in Sunday’s general election.

Orban, 54, will serve a third consecutive term in office, with his party Fidesz projected to keep its key two-thirds majority in parliament.

Fidesz won almost half of the vote, with 93 percent of ballots counted, Hungary’s National Election Office said.


The spokesman for US President Donald Trump’s National Security Council plans to leave the administration, the White House said on Sunday, a day before Trump’s third national security adviser formally takes up his post.

Michael Anton’s departure is the latest in a chain of staff changes in the Trump administration.


Facebook will send out notifications on Monday to users that were identified as having their data possibly implicated in the Cambridge Analytica scandal or if a user’s data was misused by companies that acquired it.

The first notifications will go out tomorrow. It will be at the top of the News Feed of those who were possibly impacted by Cambridge Analytica or another company that obtained a person’s data. Everyone else will see a notification prompting a user to update their security settings.


The UK’s delegation to the United Nations said that the UN Security Council is expected to meet on Monday amid calls for a prompt meeting over this weekend’s alleged chemical attack by the Syrian government. The UK was joined by the US, France, Poland, the Netherlands, Sweden, Kuwait, Peru, and the Ivory Coast in calling for the emergency meeting.
