A former Senate Leader, Ali Ndume, has said he will emerge as the Senate President of the Ninth National Assembly.The senator said this in an interview with journalists in Lagos on Monday. He said he was confident because he had the support of his colleagues in the Senate and the leaders of the All Progressives Congress.

Police arrest Adeleke over alleged certificate forgery

The Osun State candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in last year’s governorship election, Senator Ademola Adeleke, will be arraigned today in Abuja, the police said on Monday night, over alleged certificate forgery.

According to Force spokesman Frank Mba, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DCP), the senator was arrested and being detained in connection with ongoing criminal investigations touching on his person.

31 feared dead in fresh bandit attack in Zamfara

No fewer than 31 persons were killed by suspected bandits in a village in the Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State on Saturday.

The Sarkin Gandun Dansadau, Husaini Umar, spoke about the attack on Dansadau, a locality in Maru LGA, in an interview he granted the BBC Hausa Service, which was monitored in Gusau, late on Sunday.

Kidnapped OAU professor Adegbehingbe regains freedom

The Osun State Police command has secured the release of Prof Yinka Adegbehingbe the abducted lecturer of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife.  This was confirmed to by the spokesperson of the force command in Osun, Mrs. Folasade Odoro. Professor Adegbehingbe was abducted by suspected gunmen at Apomu town along Ife-Ibadan Expressway on his way to Ife on Sunday the 5th of May, 2019.

Governors may lose control of LG funds over new NFIU guidelines

State governors may lose control of local government funds if the new guidelines of the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU) become effective The guidelines would make the joint account system currently in use only exist for the receipt of allocations from the federation account but not for disbursement.

The new measures, it was learnt, were introduced by the current administration to restore LGA’s financial autonomy.
