Police arrest three suspects over abduction of former minister’s son

The Nigerian police on Wednesday said three suspects have been arrested as part of investigations into the abduction of a son of the former health minister, Isaac Adewole. Dayo Adewole was on Tuesday kidnapped by unknown gunmen at Iroko, a suburb of Ibadan, the Oyo state capital. The victim was abducted on his farm at about 6.30 p.m. on Tuesday.

The Chairman of the Kano State  Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission, Muhuyi Magaji Rimingado, on Wednesday in Kano, advanced reasons why the agency failed to probe Governor Abdullahi Ganduje’s bribery allegation, pointing out that the agency was not carried along in the investigation by the Daily Nigerian newspaper that reported the bribery allegation.

Reacting to insinuations by some members of the public that the ongoing probe of Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi II by the agency was politically motivated, Rimingado argued that Ganduje’s immunity had also prevented the agency from taking any action.

69 people killed in banditry attack in Niger – Umaru

A former senator, who represented Niger East, David Umaru, has insisted that 69 people were killed in a recent attack by armed bandits in Shiroro, Niger.

Umaru, who called out the state government for allegedly lying about the figure, declared that the government was not being truthful to the people on the exact figure of those killed. The ex-lawmaker, in a statement personally signed by him in Minna, said: “For the avoidance of doubt, I still reecho it that not less than 69 people were killed by the bandits, several injured and cattle rustled.

We are not proud of 2019 elections – Situation Room

Disclosing the number of Certificate of Returns so far, Festus Okoye, INEC National Commissioner, Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, said that one of the biggest challenges facing the commission is the large number of pre-election matters that are still pending in various courts of law. Okoye spoke at an electoral reform round-table organised by the Nigeria Civil Society Situation Room and the Kofi Annan Foundation in Abuja.

The Convener of the group, Clement Nwankwo, during an ‘Electoral Reform Roundtable” held in Abuja, said any election that lacks legitimacy will also lack international acceptance.

“We are not proud of the 2019 elections, resources were wasted, election was postponed about five hours to commencement. These did not help out democracy.”

Troops kill more terrorists in Borno

Troops have destroyed more camps belonging to Boko Haram terrorists in Borno with a number of the insurgents killed during clearance operations, the Army said yesterday. Its spokesman, Col. Sagir Musa, said in a statement that some items were recovered from the terrorists.
