Governor-elect of Ekiti, Dr Kayode Fayemi, has said it will be irresponsible of him not to probe the administration of the outgoing governor of the state, Ayo Fayose.

Fayemi who was speaking to State House correspondents after a closed-door meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja on Thursday, noted that his administration will examine what transpired in the last four years in the state including the failure of the Fayose-led administration to pay workers’ salaries.

According to him, “Well, l think we need to remove this election from personalities. These issues should be examined in the interest of good governance; it is not about probing Fayose or probing Eleka or probing anybody.”

“It is about not repeating the mistakes of the past and giving our people good governance and how to do so will also involve looking at what transpired in the last four years,’’ he added.


The 2018 virement proposal of N242bn sent to the National Assembly for the 2019 general election by President Muhammadu Buhari has revealed that the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) will need N310m to feed and administer drugs to dogs that will be deployed across the country.

Accordingly, the Nigeria Police Force will also require N7m to feed 50 horses that would be used for patrol during the elections which will take place between February 16 and March 2, 2019.

The total police budget for the elections stands at N30.5bn; the Office of the National Security Adviser, N4.2bn; the Department of State Services, N12.2bn; NSCDC, N3.5bn and the Nigeria Immigration Service, N2.6bn.


The Lagos Government has urged the Federal Ministry of Works, Power and Housing to consider shifting the proposed closure dates for the Third Mainland Bridge to a later date.

According to a statement issued on Thursday by the State’s Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Kehinde Bamigbetan who expressed sadness over the difficulties faced by motorists and commuters seeking the use of the Apapa-Oshodi highway and other routes leading to the ports, the move is to avoid compounding the traffic situation in the state.

He linked the situation to the ongoing industrial action by a section of workers at the Apapa ports which has slowed down the pace of goods clearance.


The Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) on Thursday announced an extension period for the ongoing registration and collection of Permanent Voters Card (PVC).

In a statement signed by its National Commissioner on Information and VoterEeducation, Mallam Mohammed Haruna, INEC says the registration for PVC which was held from 9am and 3pm will now hold between 9am and 5pm with effect from Wednesday, August 1.

The registration will also hold on Saturdays and Sundays, as well as during public holidays, the statement added.


Former Deputy Governor of Osun State, Senator Iyiola Omisore, has emerged as the governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP).

He polled 123,485 votes to win the party’s governorship ticket after beating his two other challengers:  Otunba Yemisi Oladeji, 1,802 votes; and  Barrister Munrudeen Atanda, 1,637 votes. The primary election was conducted in all the wards of the state and the results were collated in Osogbo by the Professor Rufus Alkali-chaired electoral panel. The process was observed by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC. After the exercise, the electoral panel chairman appreciated all party members for their cooperation in making the exercise crisis-free. He expressed optimism that the SDP would win the September 22 poll.
