APC, PDP culpable in Nigeria’s 2019 election violence – EU

Nigeria’s leading parties APC and PDP failed to act to curb violence during the 2019 general elections, the European Union Election Observation Mission (EU EOM) has said. ”Journalists were subject to harassment, and scrutiny of the electoral process was at times compromised with some independent observers obstructed in their work, including by security agencies,” the report stated.

Gunmen kill 34 villagers in Zamfara 

Gunmen have killed 34 people in Nigeria’s northern Zamfara where criminal gangs have been terrorising remote villages, police said Sunday. Armed bandits on motorcycles stormed into neighbouring Tungar Kafau and Gidan Wawa villages in Shinkafi district late Friday and shot dead 34 people, state police spokesman Mohammed Shehu said in a statement.

I have no plans to protest over INEC server – Atiku 

The candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the presidential election, Atiku Abubakar, has debunked media reports indicating he planned to lead a protest should the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal rule against his bid to compel the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to grant him access to information on the Commission’s central server.

In a statement Sunday by his media adviser, Paul Ibe, the PDP candidate described statements in circulation to that effect as the handiwork of mischief makers.

Buhari approves N208 billion for upgrade of universities 

President Muhammadu Buhari has approved N208 billion for the upgrade of federal universities. Buhari made this known at the 23rd convocation of the University of Abuja on Saturday.

Represented by Sonny Echono, permanent secretary of the education ministry, Buhari said Nigeria could overcome its challenges by developing its human capital.

Ganduje orders probe of Kano Zoo gorilla swallowing N6.8m

Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje of Kano state has ordered the State Anti-Corruption Commission to probe the issue of Kano Zoological Gardens story of alleged swallowing of the sum N6.8m by a Gorilla in the Zoo.

The order was given by the governor and the Commission has swung into action, immediately after the issuance of the order.
