Disregard Northern group’s threat on Ruga, presidency tells Nigerians
The Presidency on Tuesday clarified that the National Livestock Transformation Plan of the Federal Government was not suspended.
While advising Nigerians not to worry about the 30 days ultimatum given by the Coalition of Northern Groups over the Ruga settlement project, the Presidency advised the CNG to respect the Office of the President which, it said, took the decision in the national interest.
APC, PDP clash over Sanwo-Olu’s N41.4M Eagles’ donation
Criticisms have continued to trail the donation of $5,000 to each Super Eagles player by the Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, for their Round of 16 3-2 victory over the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon.
Opposition Peoples Democratic Party and the ruling All Progressives Congress chapters in Lagos State expressed different opinions on the donation. While the PDP described the donation as inappropriate and insensitive, the APC said it was a “philanthropic act.”
Senate seeks death penalty for rapists, paedophiles
The application of death penalty to rapists would go a long way to serve as a deterrent to the menace, the Senate said yesterday after expressing concern over the rising wave of rape and defilement of minors in the country. Besides resolving on death penalty for offenders, the lawmakers underscored the necessity to review relevant laws as well as open registers for rape offenders across the land.
Atiku’s witnesses allege manipulation of results
Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar and the party on Tuesday called 13 witnesses in support of their petition challenging the outcome of the February 23 election. Most of the witnesses gave conflicting evidence and could not substantiate the claims they made in their written deposition, under cross-examination.
Southeast governors urges FG to National Livestock Transformation Plan (NLTP) in the North
Southeast governors have yesterday insisted that they have not earmarked any land in the region for the Ruga settlement programme. The Federal Government announced the suspension of the policy which, it argued, would end recurring herders’/farmers’ clashes.
The governors under the auspices of the Southeast Governors’ Forum (SGF) on Tuesday advised the Federal Government on what to do. In statement by its Director-General, Prof Simon Uchenna Ortuanya, the Forum urged the Federal Government to kick-off the National Livestock Transformation Plan (NLTP) in the North.
