Tribunal dismisses petition against Buhari, APC

The Presidential Election Petition Tribunal on Monday dismissed the petition of the Coalition for Change (C4C) against the victory of President Muhammadu Buhari in the February 23 presidential election. This followed an application for withdrawal of the petition filed by the petitioners on June 10.

Buhari signs Public Holiday Amendment Bill

President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday at the Presidential Villa, signed the Public Holidays Act Amendment Bill into law. The Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly Matters (Senate), Ita Enang, disclosed this to State House correspondents in Abuja. Enang, a former senator, said the Act declared June 12 of every year as public holiday and Democracy Day in Nigeria.

PDP backs Ndume, Bago as APC insists on Lawan, Gbajabiamila

The National Working Committee of the All Progressives Congress on Monday ordered all the party’s members-elect in the National Assembly to vote Senator Ahmed Lawan and Femi Gbajabiamila as Senate President and Speaker of the House of Representatives, respectively during the inauguration of the 9th federal legislature on Tuesday (today).

The NWC gave the directive after a meeting with the APC governors and its members-elect in the National Assembly in Abuja on Monday.

Northern elite promoting poverty – Moghalu

The former presidential candidate of Young Progressive Party in the 2019 Presidential election, Prof. Kingsley Moghalu, has accused the northern elite and politicians  of encouraging poverty among the masses for selfish and political reasons.

According to Moghalu, the selfishness of the northern political class remains the major cause of poverty and under-development in the region. NYSC DG urges states to upgrade orientation camps facilities

The Director-General of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brig. Gen. Shuaibu Ibrahim, has said the corps will not deploy corps members to states with security challenges. He assured parents and Nigerians, especially parents that NYSC place a high premium on the safety of corps member.

The NYSC chief also urged state governments to upgrade facilities at orientation camps across the country, as required by the law.
