Andile Lili, a South African activist has been shot multiple times by gunmen in Khayelitsha, an informal settlement in Cape Town.

The 39-year-old leader of Ses’khona People’s Rights Movement (SPRM) was reportedly shot four times yesterday evening while getting into his car.

“He was shot in front of his house while he was getting into a car. The family heard the shooting. Everyone got out while it was happening. They heard it and those who did it ran away,” said SPRM spokesperson, Sthembile Majova.

Authorities in South Africa say the victim is in critical but stable condition.

The police are working towards apprehending the perpetrators of the crime.

Lili, also a member of the African National Congress Youth League, has spearheaded protests over poor service delivery in informal settlements in the past.
