Joseph Mbu, the outgoing commissioner of police in Rivers State has urged his successor, Wilson Inalegu to be firm and sustain the current low crime rate in the oil rich state.
Mbu said this during the handover ceremony which took place today in Port Harcourt, Rivers.
Mbu described himself as a lion who has tamed every leopard that has dared to cross his path.
“I advise you (CP) to carry the senior officers along in your administration. It is only a lion that can tame a leopard. I tamed the leopard in Port Harcourt, each time he remembers my face, he would remember how I tamed him,” Mbu said.
Mbu, who is now the AIG Zone 7, further advised the incoming commissioner to act like father to the officers and men of the FCT command but should not exhibit sentiments.
“You are the father of the command. Do not apply sentiments when doing police work because when you do that, you will fail,’’ he said.
He advised Inalegu to lead by example and maintain discipline in his command.
Responding, Inalegu pledged to sustain the standard set by Mbu, but stressed that the command would be civil in dealing with the public.
Mbu has had a running battle with Governor Rotimi Amaechi who accused the police boss of pandering to the whims of his Abuja paymasters.
