Surround yourself with people that offer you grace | The Daily Vulnerable

The Daily Vulnerable

I made a tough decision a few days ago; we had to let some people go because they hadn’t performed well. I called one of them and said “I’m so sorry. I know this must be tough, I’m so sorry.”

Her response surprised me.

“Chude, I could see the tears in your eyes yesterday,” she says. “I know you had to do it, and I love you still.”

That was such a powerful moment.

My God! How can a person in the depth of dealing with pain still be able to offer me grace? I was the more powerful person in that situation, but it was tough and in the midst of it, she offered me empathy. She offered me understanding. She offered me grace.

We all deserve empathy. We have a responsibility to give it to others.

In doing that, we must never forget to surround ourselves with people who understand when it is tough; people who support us when it is hard, and offer helping hands to keep us steady when we are about to fall flat.
