Super Eagles will soon strike oil, team keeps drilling the depths of FIFA’s ranking

by Olorunwa Lawal

The Super Eagles have dropped in the current FIFA ranking released on Thursday morning.

The African champions moved down four places; from 34th in last month’s ranking to 37th, and from 3rd to 6th in Africa, behind Algeria, Ivory Coast, Tunisia, Ghana and Senegal.

In recent times, Nigerian football has been troubled over the rulership of its Football Federation – a case that is believed to have reflected in the performance of the team during the African Cup of Nations qualifying matches – losing 2-3 to Congo in Calabar and a goalless draw with South Africa in Cape Town earlier this month.

Also, head coach of the team is yet to sign a new contract after his tenure expired some months ago when the Super Eagles were sent home in the second round of the FIFA World Cup.

On the world scene, Germany lead the table, while Argentina, Colombia, Netherlands and Belgium are other countries in the top five.

The next ranking will be published on October 23.
