Sierra Leone diplomat kidnapped in Kaduna is alive and well

The kidnapped defence attache and deputy head of Sierra Leone’s high commission in Nigeria, Alfred Nelson-Williams, is in good health and alive, says Sierra Leonean authorities.

The diplomat was kidnaped in Kaduna on July 1, 2016, while traveling from Abuja to Kaduna state.

According to a televised address by Abdulai Baytraytay, the spokesperson to the country’s president, Sierra Leone has sent a special envoy to Nigeria to negotiate with the kidnappers.

He said, “We are certain he is alive.”

“Sierra Leone has sent a special envoy to Abuja as an intermediary to open a line of communication between the alleged kidnappers and our high commission.”

Baytraytay further said that, “President Ernest Bai Koroma is very concerned over the kidnap… and is in around-the-clock contact with the president of Nigeria on the matter.”

The formal demand has been made for the kidnapped diplomat.
