Female tennis world number one, Serena Williams edged out world number five Maria Sharapova for an 18th straight time as she cruised into the 2016 Australian Open semi-finals.
The six-time Australian Open champion on Tuesday out-muscled her long-time Russian rival 6-4, 6-1 in a match that the bookies called in favour of the American.
Serena will meet 4th seed Agnieszka Radwanska for a place in the final as she moves closer to matching Steffi Graf’s Open-era grand slam record of 22 titles.
Sharapova’s last win against Serena dates back to 2004 when she beat her in the Wimbledon final.
