An epic war of words erupted on Tuesday night between former governor of AKwa Ibom state, Senator Godswill Akpabio and New York-based news outfit, Sahara Reporters.
The rift started when the news outfit- through its Twitter handle- alleged that Akpabio has links to the embattled Lekki Gardens which is under probe by the Lagos state government.
A building collapse in Lekki Gardens, had last week, resulted in the deaths of over 35 people in Lagos.

Akpabio, whose election was erroneously reported by the news outfit to be declared void in December 2015, was incensed by the new bout of accusations.

At this point, Sahara Reporters launched an all-out attack at Akpabio- who had proven that he wasn’t going to lie low and take the flak.
@SenAkpabio It was an error on our part, we owned up to it. You'll have to account for all bad deeds, you can't get away with buying justice

@SenAkpabio You'll not always get away with all your shenanigans, money won't always buy you the police, judges, journalists, bloggers…

@SenAkpabio You are the one well known for buying journalists. Remember how NUJ members you bribed were kidnapped in Aba in 2010?
— Sahara Reporters (@SaharaReporters) March 15, 2016
@SenAkpabio You'll be gone, rest assured that you can't bribe us and we can't be bought. You know this as a fact.

@SenAkpabio You can wish that all your corrupt deeds would be buried, you must pay for every ounce of your shenanigans. No expiration date!

@SenAkpabio You can't invent a different God for yourself and another for victims of your 8 years of grand theft & invoke it against anyone.

@SenAkpabio If you didn't steal most of the funds sent to Akwa Ibom, the state would be competing with any state in the real world today!
— Sahara Reporters (@SaharaReporters) March 15, 2016
Akpabio’s media team then explained why it opted to go head to head with the news outfit as opposed to their culture of silence.

But Sahara Reporters was not having it.
@SenAkpabio So, suddenly it is the "Social Media Team" of Senator Akpabio responding after he's put to shame…Nice try!
