Two Senators, Thom Tillis, a North Carolina Republican, and Chris Coons, a Delaware Democrat introduced a plan on Thursday that would stop the President from being able to directly fire any special counsel, CNN reports.
On CNN’s “Newsroom” Thursday, Tillis said; “The President would maintain power to remove the special counsel, but we would just want to make sure that it had merit and have that back-end judicial process”. He added, “and if there is a termination, we just want to make sure, through judicial review, that it was warranted”.

This would kill every other avenue of firing special counsel Mueller without except through an Attorney General confirmed by the Senate.
The President has openly expressed his frustration at Attorney General Jeff Sessions Trump, in interviews, public appearances and on Twitter. His main grouse – Sessions’ recusal from the federal Russia investigations which led to ongoing speculations that he may try and find a new attorney general who would fire Mueller.
Tillis said the attorney general is “doing a great job”, warning that if the bipartisan proposal passes through Congress and Trump decides to veto the legislation, “it means that we’d have work to do potentially override a veto”.
