Emmys 2017 took an unpredictable turn when former White House Press Secretary, Sean Spicer made a surprising appearance at the end of Stephen Colbert’s opening monologue, only to bite his tongue with his reply to an unsuspecting setup question.
On stage, Colbert asked if someone could predict how large this year’s Emmy audience would be, and in a manner similar to his defense of Trump’s inauguration attendance in January, Spicer said, “This will be the largest audience to witness an Emmys period, both in person and around the world”.
In defense of Trump’s inauguration attendance, Spicer insisted to reporters back in January that, “This was the largest audience to ever witness an inauguration, period”.
