The false assets declaration trial of Senate President, Bukola Saraki at the Code of Conduct Tribunal, has been adjourned to March 24.

At the resumed hearing of Saraki’s motion to quash the charges against him, his lawyer, Kanu Agabi (SAN), stated that the tribunal lacked jurisdiction to entertain the charges arguing that the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice lacked the authority to file charges before the tribunal.

He also argued that the failure of the Code of Conduct Bureau to invite Saraki to confront him with the anomalies discovered in his assets declaration form, had left in question, the validity of the charges.

Countering the argument, the prosecuting counsel, Rotimi Jacobs (SAN), said the motion was an abuse of court process, urging the court to dismiss it.

After taking in both side’s submission, the Tribunal ruled to decide whether it had jurisdiction to hear the 13-count charge, next week.
