Saraki begs court to disqualify CCT Chairman as trial judge

In a bid to stall the continuation of his trial at the Code of Conduct Tribunal, Senate President Bukola Saraki has reportedly filed another application at the tribunal seeking to disqualify the Chairman, Danladi Umar.

Saraki is on trial for 13 counts of false declaration of assets at the CCT.

Saraki has had his many applications to deter his trial dismissed by the CCT, a Federal High Court and the Supreme Court also.

According to Punch Newspaper, Saraki through this new application, is requesting that the tribubal chairman, Danladi Umar, disqualify himself from the case.

The fresh applcation was reportedly filed on Tuesday, April 19, on the basis that Umar is under investigation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, asking him to disqualify himself from the trial.

In the motion, Saraki alleged that Umar would most likely be favourable towards the EFCC, which is leading prosecution in the trial since the same EFCC is investigating the Tribunal chairman’s case.

The application was filed before the CCT by Raphael Oluyede, who has not been part of Saraki’s defence team since the CCT fiasco began.

The application has however reportedly not be served on the prosecution yet.
