Roundup: All the ways Biafra agitators have ramped up in the past week

by Roqeebah Olaoniye

While the rest of the country might have been focused on other things, a lot has been going on in secessionist news.

Accusations

The Movement for Actualisation of Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB), on Monday accused the federal government and the British police of connivance to jail a London-based Biafra activist, Yagozie Emmanuel, who was involved in a peaceful demonstration against the red carpet welcome given to President Muhammadu Buhari by the British government when he visited the United Kingdom.

Comrade Uchenna Madu, MASSOB leader, described the arrest as part of the British and Nigerian governments’ efforts to frustrate Biafrans’ struggle for self determination.

IPOBMore Breaking Away

Theres a new breakaway faction from the secessionist group, Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) following accusations of inflexibility against embattled IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu. It’s called The Re-branded Indigenous People of Biafra (TRIOPOB).

Official Announcement

The faction will officially denounce the IPOB on October 1, 2016 at a ‘flag burning ceremony’ where the Nigerian national anthem and the pledge will be recited acknowledging Nigeria as their country.

Taking A swipe at MEND

Nnamdi Kanu wifeFollowing rumours (credited to MEND) that the IPOB leader himself had also denounced Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu’s wife in an interview with IBTimes, UK declared the rumour mongers “misguided” saying her husband was unshaken in his struggle. While admitting it isn’t her place to tell MEND what to do she advised to them is to “stop peddling such hoax in their quest for amnesty.”

Supporting Fulani herdsmen?

Unhappy with the failure of most of the governors in the South-east to fulfill their promises, Biafra Zonal Information Director, Anselm Ogbonna, in Abia State released a statement warning the governors to keep their promises or vacate their offices. He went on to accuse the governors of failing to protect citizens from Fulani Herdmen. According to him, “majority of these politicians have tactically supported the grazing bill because they have cattle which these Fulani are raring for them.”
