During a recent media parley for the Hennessy Artistry, Wizkid talked a bit about his sophomore album, ‘Ayo(Joy)’.

According to the Starboy honcho, ‘Jaiye Jaiye’, his highly successful collaboration with Afrobeat icon, Femi Kuti, was one which put him on his toes, and made him want to give his best delivery. He also expressed his initial uncertainty on the kind of reception it would get from fans.

Wizkid said, “When I made jaiye jaiye, I didn’t know people were ready to accept the song, so I needed something to make it really special. I called Femi Kuti for a collaboration and almost immediately, he agreed. I was shocked. I had to go back to the studio that night to re-do the song so he wouldn’t be disappointed. We recorded it the next day and it was a successful.”

He also said stated that he endeavoured to stick to his original style, despite associating and mingling with foreign artistes over the last 12 months,while adding that the album is loved by everyone.

“Everybody is loving the tracks and are discovering new songs on the album even though I had put out about seven of the songs on it. When I was making this album, I was trying to make a conscious decision not to change my style because people were beginning to think I would change my style since I started rolling with international artistes, Wizkid added.

After its release on 17 September, the record ranked at number 99 on the top 100 albums on iTunes
