Last year August, Nollywood luminary Richard Mofe-Damijo announced via his Instagram that he will co-star with veteran actress Ego Boyo on a new series called Mr X Family Show. The news from RMD, as he’s popularly called, came with a lot of deserved praise for Boyo: their creative relationship dates back to the unforgettable classic soap Checkmate that ran from 1991 to 1994, and the Amaka Igwe-directed 1996 romantic drama Violated, in which they starred as a couple.
22 years later, and Richard Mofe-Damijo and Ego Boyo are coming back to TV, with the guarantee to thrill lots of fans who have watched them in their much-younger selves. Considering both are some of the most charismatic actors the country has ever produced, seeing them put all the experience they have cumulatively amassed into a singular project will be quite the experience.
The upcoming series Mr X Family Show is Richard Mofe-Damijo’s debut as a producer, and will premiere on Africa Magic Showcase, channel 151 on DSTV on May 6. Details about the show still hasn’t been divulged, but title of the show is a little funny and elementary, don’t you guys think? With no trailer of even a teaser, we are moving with blind faith, driven by nostalgia as we hope to see one of Nollywood’s most iconic pairings on our screens.
When Bernard Dayo isn’t writing about pop culture, he’s watching horror movies and reading comics and trying to pretend his addiction to Netflix isn’t a serious condition.
