It’s super easy to be the talk of town in these parts and it’s even easier to make our losers’ list. Last week, the EFCC’s discovery and recovery mission got many of us talking and it seemed a lot like Nigerians were more fascinated by the whistleblower’s effect than the EFCC’s seeming hard work. Who else? Reuben Abati. This one tore down everything that is left of his reputation with just one article.

WINNERS 

Efe Ejeba: The 24-year-old who walked away with the grand prize at the Big Brother Naija finale show on Sunday was the most-talked about individual in Nigeria last week. After 78 days of mind-blowing tasks, adventure, evictions, tears and some backstabbing, the BBNaija show ended with the most popular housemate, Efe getting named as the winner of the 2017 edition.

Later on in the week, Efe was presented with his 25 million naira cheque and a brand new Kia Sorento SUV jeep. In the same week, the Plateau State governor, Solomon Lalong named him Entertainment and Creative Industry Ambassador of the state.

Governor Godwin Obaseki: PDP candidate in the Edo gubernatorial election, Pastor Ize-Iyamu had filed a petition challenging the victory of APC’s Godwin Obaseki but he was met with zero luck at the courts. The tribunal sitting kicked out his case declaring that it lacked merit.

Governor Obaseki, his deputy and former governor, Adams Oshiomole reportedly took to the streets to celebrate the court judgment in favour of the APC.

The Whistleblower: The new Nigerian hero who leads the EFCC to secret locations where large amount of looted cash is found. The whistleblower can be me, you or anyone and the best part? His reward is 5% of the recovered loot and he’s who every young Nigerian desires to be now.

LOSERS

Governor Akinwunmi Ambode: He turns out to be as insensitive, callous and elitist as they come. On his orders, settlers of the erstwhile peaceful Otodo Gbame community have been repeatedly attacked by members of the Police Force and State Task Force.

Homes have been set on fire, residents have turned refugees, hopes have been snatched and some have met with untimely death since the Governor decided to unleash unwarranted terror on these ones. All attempts at getting justice has been futile and the state government continues to forcefully displace the settlers and take over their land.

As Lagos celebrates 50 years of existence, we hope Governor Ambode can live with himself for this great injustice that he has done.

Reuben Abati: A father, husband, brother, friend, former Editor-in-Chief and presidential spokesman put himself and family to eternal shame when he decided he’d weigh in on Big Brother Naija because it’s hip to do so. He succeeded at getting attention just as he hoped but completely failed at gaining any respect or applause.

In fact, many were led to question his sanity once we stumbled on the part of his article where he likened a BBNaija contestant’s breasts to mangoes, fluffy ones. And the part where he said to Tiwa Savage “hey baby, watch the fat around your waist and thighs”… have we seen madness on this level? Not quite.

EFCC and money recovery: Last week, two major covert operations led to the discovery of millions of cash in naira, pounds and dollars in two separate locations in Lagos state but Nigerians are far from impressed. For many, the real work is not in the showoff of the success of these missions but in the prosecution of looters and we hardly get to witness the latter.

So dear EFCC, Nigerians want you to maybe do less Netflix and get some convictions done.
