The PDP elective National Convention held.

But, before then most of the candidates from the South West withdrew from the Chairmanship race. No explicit reason was given for their withdrawal but, there are indications that they withdrew angrily, considering the new Chairman, Uche Secondus, alongside other delegates have been going around trying to pacify the aggrieved Yoruba PDP Chiefs.

Also at the convention, the Chairman of the Caretaker Committee of the party, Ahmed Makardi revealed the account details of the party, saying the party has been broke, however, he did not allow that to deter him from carrying out his duties.

Still on the matter, Yoruba PDP asked Nyesom Wike to withdraw his irreverent comment about Obasanjo, asking that the party tries to come together for the 2019 elections.

The 12th edition of The Future Awards Africa held at Eko Hotel and Nigeria’s Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo was the keynote speaker.

Osinbajo asked that the ‘New Tribe’ – Nigeria’s youth – understand the basis for their existence and use that to create a better future for the country.

Instead of the Nigerian Police to address the issues that led to the #EndSARS campaign, the PRO of the Force, Jimoh Moshood said the allegations against the targeted Police Unit are not true – even when there are video shreds of evidence.

Nigerians held a protest during the week and insisted that SARS be scrapped not reformed like the IGP had ordered.

Continuing in the investigations, the IGP, Ibrahim Idris ordered the arrest of 32 Operatives of SARS.

In another case of intimidation and incessant killing, the Nigerian Army sentenced one of its Soldiers for killing five civilians.

Reacting to a comment by the National Leader of the APC, the governor of Imo, Rochas Okorocha insisted that governors have endorsed President Buhari’s second term bid, therefore, Tinubu should stop crying more than the bereaved.

Tinubu replied, saying he values and respects governors and Okorocha must have misunderstood his statement.

A usual ‘war’ broke out after the PDP convention and, it was between the ruling party, APC and the PDP.

The APC began by saying the convention showed that corruption is deeply rooted in the DNA of the main opposition party, citing the instance of a “Unity List” to elect officers for the party.

The APC, however, congratulated the PDP but the latter said the former was jittery that the party was back and better, ahead of the 2019 General Elections.

The APC replied, dismissing claims it planned to disrupt the convention of the PDP.

The APC went further to say that the governor of Rivers, Nyesom Wike used state money to sponsor the convention.

In a rare development, the Chairman of the APC, John Odigie-Oyegun said he could work with Uche Secondus.

The Libya slave trade has continued to surprise many and a returnee asked Nigerians who intend to travel to Europe through Libya to change their plans as the situation is worse than what is being reported in the media.

Having qualified for Russia 2018, world football governing body, FIFA sanctioned Nigeria for using a disqualified candidate.

A 3-0 victory was afterwards awarded to Algeria.

Without complaining, Nigeria’s football body, NFF said they accept the decision.

The NFF President, Amaju Pinnick also apologised and explained how the error occurred.

The NFF also set up a panel to investigate the error.

Ahead of the public hearing of the NGO Bill, Amnesty International asked Nigerians not to allow the bill to be passed as it would gag Nigerians and stop citizens from exercising their rights.

Protesters afterwards said NO to the bill, storming the National Assembly.

Fortunately for Nigerians, the bill failed to gain support at the public hearing.

For the second time, gunmen attacked the Abuja residence of the Acting Chairman of the EFCC, Ibrahim Magu, killing one policeman.

In reaction, the anti-graft agency said it will not be deterred in the fight against corruption.

Magu also reiterated that corruption will kill Nigeria if care is not taken.
