In recent times, a lot of attention has been raised on the many social injustices that have caused global attention. While many are coming out to address issues relating to rape, police brutality, gender discrimination, racism and a host of social injustices, social media is serving as an amplifier for these voices.
Nigerians leveraging on this, have in the last few days taken to Twitter, sharing their opinions on news building up around Nigerian singer and entertainer, Oladapo Daniel Oyebanjo popularly known as D’banj, accused by a certain Seyitan of raping and sexually assaulting her in 2018.
The singer who has been accused of rape was said to have been knocked off on a deal he signed with some brands as well as a petition to cancel him on many platforms he has dealings with, including the United Nations to remove him as a youth ambassador and distance themselves from his actions. following the sponsored kidnap o

Following the rape allegation against him, calls have made on the authorities to ensure that justice prevails for victims. Under a trend, #DbanjSuspended, many have shared that an example needs to be made of the singer so that others could learn.
Rape ruins life. Every rape victim is also someone's daughter, sister, or mother. It is our responsibility to become involved & take action before these cold statistics become personal.

Thank you Heritage Bank, I mailed them from a dozen different emails yesterday. The fact that Dbanj used his influence to detain and silence the lady is ENOUGH REASON for every brand to drop him. #DbanjSuspended pic.twitter.com/AUbE2Bx0pp

Honestly, I think Heritage Bank did
something nice by DBanj getting what
he got for acting up #DbanjSuspended pic.twitter.com/8VAu7M8HkL— I Z U?#BBNaija (@Izunnamichael92) June 20, 2020
While many people have stressed their support for the development, a few others are pointing out that the #DbanjSuspended is totally unnecessary especially when the singer is yet to be found guilty of the crime. They are pointing out that people need to wait for investigations to be completed before demanding his suspension.
You didn't hear from Dbanj, you didn't hear from Seyitan, just random conspiracy theories and noise on social media & you dey cancel Dbanj, anyways #DbanjSuspended is trending already, I hope this isn't Amber Heard & Johnny Depp's story all over again, may the truth prevail.

Accusation does not suffice. A man is guilty when and only when his guilt has been proven beyond reasonable doubt by a competent Court of Law.
Heritage bank just needed something to which they could terminate Dbanj's ambassadorship on. #DbanjSuspended— Obaje (@ALEX_SMARTT) June 20, 2020
It's sad to see the enormous hate on Dbanj
Note: Rape is Rape and shouldn't be condoned!
But as humans, we are always quick to judge without knowing the full story, why not wait until he is proven guilty!
What if he is innocent?#DbanjSuspended

Dbanj has never for once been accused of rape. How will he get endorsements again when his music is no longer selling. I think the court of law should have proven him guilty first before his ambassadorial deal gets cut off. #DbanjSuspended

We have heard of so many false allegations, CR7, Neymar Jr, and so on. Judging @dbanj without proper investigation is to show how toxic our society has become. What if the allegations are false, what happens to the accuser.
NB. I'm not supporting rape in anyway.#DbanjSuspended pic.twitter.com/4rrzvz0T8o— BUKOLA OF LAGOS (@nawtybukola) June 20, 2020
Some stressed that many people just want to make a scapegoat off Dbanj as they have shared that the singer may be innocent in all of these that have been levied against him.
All I have learnt from this whole #dbanj issue is that most Nigerians never learn, they are always looking for a scape goat, they are more sentimental and less rational when it comes to matters like this. They believe in "dem say dem day" and most Nigerians are sadist.

There is also a school of thought with the belief that the bank may have had issues with him and that the rape allegations may have just been a “last straw’ story.
Heritage bank cutting ties with Dbanj should teach you a lesson that some people don't really care about you, they are just sticking with you cos they benefit from you and once they sense that things are not going well for you, they will jump bus.. #DbanjSuspended pic.twitter.com/UJc0DNHHUE

D’banj is yet to react to these allegations and the authenticity of the reports not certain, Nigerians are however, urging relevant authorities to make sure that the truth is brought to light and the course of justice extended in full.
