Vector thinks Reminisce > Olamide

All the while I had the impression that rapper Olamide is the king of rap in western Nigeria. However, rapper Vector thinks the true king is Reminisce.

In this chat with YNaija, Vector Tha Viper (real name Olanrewaju Ogunmefun) talked about growing up, his hit track King Kong (Remix) and more.

“I had a bunch of friends, played soccer (monkey post), touch and play, police and thief (cops and robbers) so many games. My dad is the most selfless officer I know that served. Barrister Ayileka will tell you he was damn too godly and easy as an officer. He was referred to as the king of boys by the lafiaji boys in the neighborhood.”

Interestingly, with his several hit tracks, including King Kong which is presently making airwaves, Vector still doesn’t consider himself Nigeria’s most intelligent rapper.

“I haven’t seen myself as that to be honest. I just do me according to reason. If doing me is perceived so then by all means. King Kong is just d outcome of us experimenting. We thought trap music mixed with atilogwu percussions and a few other elements and bam! We made a hit.”

On why the ‘King Kong’ track has two different remixes with different artistes:

“We had a lot of creative kings coming through with verses that are insane. We just had to break it down for better enjoyment. Reminisce holds it down good in the West, Phyno has the eastern region on his back and Classiq has always been a talented chap I met a long time ago through Malcom. It just felt like it was time to go in on a dope rap piece. Uzikwendu has to be one of the fastest rappers in recent time. This is rap! Let’s have fun with it.”

He also said about the past political administration:

“I’ve had people pass on from lack of potent healthcare, security hasn’t been its best, but I can’t shake the fact that I’m still very hopeful. It can only get better.

“As Nigerians, this particular year hasn’t started the best for us all. I mean the whole idea of an election that practically froze a lot of things for a lot of people with the postponed date and scarcity of fuel that lasted to a point where radio was shutting down from their regular 24hrs. Telecommunication was experiencing the worst as they didn’t have power to run masts to the fullest of capacities. Different news on fraud that we didn’t know what was true from what wasn’t. I mean all we as a people can do is summon the King Kong strength and be strong through all that nonsense.”

Here’s what he expects from the new government:

“They come in at the hope part where things begin to get better. We hope the present administration knows the people are on the edge. All we can ask is for the new administration to do their best. That’s all.”

He said about the latest trend for young ladies to marry much older men, “Maybe young men should wait till they’re older? Male or female, our decisions are ours to make as the consequences are also ours to face.”

On his publicity stunt proposal to Chidinma Ekile, which made the rounds some time ago, he said:

“I have never considered actually wooing Chidinma but I think she’s a very beautiful woman.”

The rapper said he’s got big surprises for fans this year and will be dropping an album at the end of the year.
