Psych-Eval: What do we do about Femi Fani-Kayode?

Ever since he left the APC’s early days to become the Director-General of the Goodluck Jonathan re-election campaign, Femi Fani-Kayode has assumed the position of the relentless scourge of Muhammadu Buhari, from GMB to PMB.

With Ayodele Fayose exploding his own bombs from Ekiti, FFK’s attacks on Buhari, from his time as a candidate to becoming President, have been without censorship or revision. At times, his claims have bordered on alarmism, at other times, there have been reasonable elements of pro-active sensitisation and advocacy.

Fani-Kayode, a former Minister of Aviation, apparently sees his position as one who must stand against the present Government’s supposed plan to run Nigeria like a dictatorship. He has accused Buhari and the APC of virtually all imaginable evils, and does not fail to snap against anyone who is remotely allied with the ruling party.

To say he has been equally voracious as he has been vocal will not necessarily be an overstatement. If there was a shadow Government of some sort, there couldn’t be a better person to fill the role of the Opposition Minister of Information.

The corruption charges that have troubled his waters over the past two years have neither numbed nor humbled him. If anything, every new trial or motion against him produces an equal and fiercely opposite reaction. He appears to have a treasure of the most point-blank retorts for anyone who dares to cross him.

And you don’t even need to be speaking to him to have him turn up in your court. If he’s in the mood, FFK does not care to lay into you and pierce. Not that it always turns out to be an un-foolish thing to do, as was the case with his wrongful aim at one of Nollywood’s finest, Kate Henshaw, whom he’d mistaken as the author of some comments related to IPOB and Nnamdi Kanu.

Facebook and Twitter have been his pulpit. Fani-Kayode is not averse to doing an occasional ‘inspired’ thread on the “satanic” machinations that is the APC; if he put it that way, he would have been mild. It has helped his cause that some of the most read online news platforms also quickly publish his op-eds and disseminate them rapidly, making sure he is one of the most read in the online space. Whether it be gibberish or the gospel his posts reach quite a fair size of the audience he targets.

FFK, like every one of us who is on the internet, enjoys the freedom of speech guaranteed by the Constitution. His opinions, if they nauseate or fortify, will always be in our faces. He will not keep quiet, and it can be assumed that he will never be buyable by the APC.

But his views, being more pepper, than salt, what do we do about him?
