Professor Ishaq Oloyede and his silent revolution in JAMB

The Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) Professor Ishaq Oloyede is in the news and it’s for a commendable reason. Since his assumption of office, he has displayed administrative prowess by reorganising the agency and the result is glaring for all to see. At the moment, JAMB has displayed a high level of transparency that is missing in other Government agencies.

The number one pointer to Oloyede’s revolution is the increase in JAMB’s earnings which shows loopholes that have hitherto drained public funds in the agency has been blocked. According to the registrar Oloyede, JAMB remitted Fifty million naira in forty years, however, in 2017, the agency remitted Seven billion, eight hundred million naira into the federation account.

Oloyede has taken this a step further, by ensuring that JAMB no longer depends on the Federal Government for funds. The agency is planning to pay its own salaries if given a go-ahead by the Federal government. It is worthy to note that Oloyede achieved these feats without an increment in JAMB fees. He just made a decision to properly manage the agencies resources.

Politicians and other heads of government agencies need to take a cue from Oloyede, who is making a difference in his assignment. At the moment, several government agencies have corruption allegations hanging on their neck, the same cannot be said of JAMB as its dealings is now open for public scrutiny. It is evident Nigeria needs more people like Professor Ishaq Oloyede to run public offices. He has displayed uncommon administrative qualities that needs to be emulated.

Public office is public trust and Oloyede has not betrayed the trust reposed in him.
