Buhari needs your prayers more than I do – Pres. Jonathan

by James Sambo

President Goodluck Jonathan has enjoined Nigerians to pray for the incoming government of Muhammadu Buhari.

He said Buhari’s government needed the prayers of Nigerians more then he does, as he would no longer be making decisions that affect the whole nation.

Jonathan spoke on Sunday, May 24, at the 2015 presidential thanksgiving and inauguration interdenominational church service held at the National Christian Centre, Abuja.

He said, “I thank you for your support. I call on you to pray for us who are leaving, because today is the last day I will speak with you in this place as the President of Nigeria. If I have the opportunity of standing here again, I will be speaking as a former President.

“Pray for me, my wife and family, members of my government, ministers and others as we leave.

“But you should even pray more for the incoming government because we are leaving, probably to go and manage our private businesses. They are coming in to manage the whole country, so they require more prayer.

“I am leaving and will be taking decisions that will be affecting me. If they do any mistake, it will affect the whole nation. So I call on you to pray for this incoming government for them to succeed. All we want for this nation is good governance, unity and peace.

“We can’t achieve these without the help of God.”
