Certificate suit against Buhari thrown out, lawyer says ‘my family is concerned’

The suit challenging the legitimacy of the WAEC certificate of President Muhammadu Buhari, has been struck out by Adeniyi Ademola, justice of the federal high court, Abuja.

Nnamdi Nwokocha-Ahaiwe, the lawyer who filed the suit, issued a notice of withdrawal which was implemented on Thursday.

Nwokocha-Ahaiwe had alleged that President Buhari was not qualified to run for the Presidency as he didn’t sit for the Cambridge West African School Certificate WASC) in 1961 as he claimed.

The notice of withdrawal was filed on June 27, at a notice at the Federal High Court Abuja.

“Take note that the plaintiff in this originating summons, Nnamdi Nwokocha-Ahaaiwe, hereby discontinues this action”, the notice read in part.

Speaking on the suit, Nwokocha-Ahaiwe, in an interview with ThisDay, had alleged that subtle threats were made on his life and on that of his family.

“Of course, I am concerned and my family and friends are too; I am not naive and some subtle threats have already been made. For now it is small comfort that if anything happens to me, even if disguised as an accident or anything, Nigerians will know exactly who is responsible.”

President Buhari had during the last general election, said his WAEC results were with the military board, however, the military board had claimed that it wasn’t in possession of the said result.

The President hired a team of high profile lawyers to defend the suit filed by Nwokocha-Ahaiwe.

The lawyers hired by the President include:

Wole Olanipekun (SAN), Lateef O. Fagbemi (SAN), Akin Olujinmi (SAN), Oluwarotimi O. Akeredolu (SAN), Kola Awodein (SAN), Taiwo Osipitan (SAN).
