Powerful earthquake hits Mexico

A strong earthquake rocked central Mexico on Tuesday, resulting into a deep shaking of swings of buildings in the capital, unbelievably on the anniversary of a 1985 quake that did major damage.

National Civil Protection chief Luis Felipe Puente through a tweet wrote that, there were no reports of damage so far, but thousands of people fled office buildings along the central Reforma Avenue as alarms blared, and traffic stopped around the Angel of Independence monument.

However, in Mexico City, pictures fell from walls, objects were shaken off of flat surfaces and computer monitors toppled over causing many to seek for cover under desks.

The incidence was shocking and unbelievable owing to an earlier preparation drills of buildings held across the city on the anniversary of the 1985 quake.

The U.S. Geological Survey revealed that, the quake had a magnitude of 7.1 and was centered near Raboso in the state of Puebla which is about 76 miles (123 kilometers) southeast of Mexico City.
