Pepsi has announced that it would pull its controversial ad featuring Kendall Jenner which was released late Tuesday.
The advert had been heavily criticized for ‘misrepresenting’ the protest culture and the Black Lives matter movement.
The company has earlier released a statement saying the ad symbolizes unity.
But in a new statement, it said, “Pepsi was trying to project a global a message of unity, peace and understanding.
“Clearly, we missed the mark, and we apologize. We did not intend to make light of any serious issue. We are pulling the content and halting any further rollout. We also apologize for putting Kendall Jenner in this position.”
Jenner in the ad removes her makeup and wig at a photoshoot, throwing it at an assistant, before joining a crowd of demonstrators for an unspecified movement.
When she gives the officer the soda, the crowd erupts in cheers.
