PDP is back to the ‘era of Ali Modu Sheriff’ but Fayose is yet to realise

Ekiti governor, Ayodele Fayose has said the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will never go back to the era of Ali Modu Sheriff.

Fayose said this while reacting to the emergence of a splinter PDP group on Wednesday.

Background:

One Emmanuel Obi-Nwosu had led a group of people to its own national secretariat in the Asokoro area of Abuja.

The group described the National Convention of the PDP as a sham.

Obi-Nwosu had contested for the post of national youth leader and lost.

What Fayose said:

Fayose said enemies of the PDP were behind the group, describing them as charlatans.

He said, “They are simply charlatans. I won’t be surprised and we are doing investigations to know those who are behind them.

“In a society like Nigeria, where we need a virile opposition, we need to continually put the government of the day on its toes for them to know that Nigeria is greater than all of us.

“Some miscreants would just make press statement and say they are splinter group or whatever they call themselves. In a proper democracy, they are supposed to have been arrested and detained for breaching the peace of the society as their action is unwarranted and uncalled for.

“But we are not going to celebrate such by making an issue out of it. Nigeria needs peace at all times. We are not going to go back to the days of Sheriff and co, by giving attention to those persons making noise all over the place. This party will remain focused and move on.

“I urge Nigerians to ignore them. When I saw them on the Internet, they were faceless people I cannot recognise so they remain a set of jobless miscreants.”

The PDP is already back to the era of Ali Modu Sheriff

It seems we were wrong to have thought the PDP National Convention will make the party a viable opposition to the APC.

Instead, the convention has taken the party right back to where it started but Fayose is still in the dark.

Aside the splinter group, a chieftain of the party from the South-West recently instituted a suit against it.

And then the emergence of the Ali Modu Sheriff faction, which further destroyed the party.

Fayose should know that his party is already in crisis and as chairman of its governors forum, he needs to start finding solutions.
